This is the next upgraded model that superceeded the Cisco 877. This model adds more WAN transmission types like VDSL, LTE, Ethernet and ADSL1/2+ still. It has a better CPU than the previous model. At the moment I have managed to get it up to 200mbit WAN throughput with some basic NAT/IP access lists turned on, and approx 100mbit using IPsec tunneling with AH encryption turned on, before the CPU spikes to 100%, still pretty nice for this platform.
I have included files below for the 897 if you require it for your pleasure.

Great tip for those with a Cisco 897 :
This router actually has 1 Gb of memory , but it is locked to 512 Mb …
To upgrade and double your memory, for free > > >
Router(config) # license feature mem-8XX-512U1GB
( accept EULA : yes )
Router(config) # exit
Router # license right-to-use move mem-8XX-512U1GB
( to change it from evaluation to permanent/Life time mode )
Confirm with : show license , and , show version
You’re welcome ! ;o)
Indeed a great tip and one I hadn’t seen, thanks for taking the time to post.

Any advice you can give me.
Cheers

Without going through the motions of inspecting your config, etc. I would suggest a google search for…
“license right-to-use move mem-8XX-512U1GB”
You should find a few guides around the steps and order.
Hope this helps.
thanks, i didnt know about that feature, if there was only a feature to unlock additional CPU power to handle 1gig links 🙂
Yes, it is actually ridiculous they put a Gigabitethernet WAN port on a router that can not handle GBit speed internally… 🙁 The unlocking of additional memory should help a bit though.
I could not tell myself though, as I am using VDSL2 with max attainable rate of about 110 Mbit. But I always assumed my router was future-proof, for fiberoptic 1000 Mbit.
I guess by that time, I’d need to scour eBay for a cheap 1000 series, like a C111x-4P.
yeah, i have 1gig now and couldnt use the 897.. i am using the C111x series to handle 1gig. I then tried to turn on the netflow function on C111x serie but then it couldnt handle the 1gig throughput because of netflow, this reduced the speed to something like 400M.
I still think they need a few more CPU cores even in the C111x series if you want to turn on lots of features.
Would you kindly update the files repo to include the May release of …
c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.158-3.M8.bin
Thanks in advance, appreciate it.
I have added it
Hi Alcatron can you share or have the release of september c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.158-3.M9.bin?
Regards, Diogo.
could you update this with c800-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M9.bin ?
Thanks!
