Leaky Gut Update – Zonulin

Since 2013 as you may have noticed from my previous blog posts I have been suffering from leaky gut caused by the Klebsiella bacteria. Since then i have managed to clear the Klebsiella bacteria. But even then still something isnt a 100%. Usually on a daily basis i feel 85%, but something still isnt right with the other 15%, while keeping on a tight restrictive low histamine and clean diet for 3 years now. No sugar, processed foods for 3 years! Its tough but I have part of my life back.

I recently took a food intolerence test like I did in 2013, the original one that I posted. I had IGG allergy to 49/269 foods.  This time I took at test for 93 foods, and only 2 came back , 2+ cows milk, and 1+ on almonds, and tremendous improvement over 2013 result.

So food intolorance is a step up and looking good. Also my DAO and Histamine normalized over the 2013 result which im really pleased with. I have been able to tolerate aged meats more..

BUT HOWEVER……………………. The test for ZONULIN which tests the gut wall leakyness through blood test, the result went off the charts, so I still have inflammation of some sort showing there at the gut level. The aim now will be to further analyze stool test at a more detailed level to see if any other bacteria are lurking preventing the full healing.

The latest result:

Zonulin 90.0 ng/mL (But should be in range 20.0 – 48.0) ,

Diamine Oxidase 26.0 units/mL (Yes! mine falls under Low Incidence)

Ranges:
> 10U/ml – Low incidence of Histamine Intolorence
3.0 – 10U/ml Probable Histamine Intolerence
< 3.0U/ml High incidence of Histamine Intolorence

Histamine 43.0 ug/L ( Normal Range 28.0 – 51.0) Yes! its in the within range.

The Zonulin and Histamine tests were done through Nutripath in Australia through a practitioner.

So what we have is:

  • Eliminate Klebsiella – Check
  • Eliminate/Reduce Food Intolerance – Check
  • Eliminate/Reduce Histamine Intolerence – Check
  • Bring Leaky Gut back to normal within range – something to work on still

Also i am keeping on an anti-inflammatory diet, as im still inflamed due to the high zonulin, but its a work in progress!

Long journey for the past 3-4 years I only hope it gets better, will keep you updated!

Leaky Gut Update #11

Well here we are at update 11 of the leaky gut story.. and im still trying to heal from the damage klebsiella have done. For about the last 4 months i developed some kind of histamine intolerence and still to this date I have histamine issues with meat which im still trying to figure out why and how to improve it. After months and months of mainly eating meat it seems my bucket has really quite overflowed.

This for me creates a problem as im unable to have that much meat unless it is very fresh. Another thing showing in my reports is my gut inflammation levels are not going down and still staying similar however food intolerences have improved. I just dont know how to get this histamine under control as its been going for a while. Organic Brown Rice protein powder has been my savour while having issues with meat, as well as lots of vegtables and fruit.

Some say avoid grains if you want the gut to heal..however what do i eat if I cannot have grains or meat, or beans a very limited diet with no options . My meals are mainly based around vegtables, sweetpotato, and ground flax, with some fruits, as well as organic brown rice protein powder at the moment. On occasion breast chicken or turkey depending on toleration.

I also got delivery of the seeking health histamine block, however even taking 2-3 of these tablets still does not help with the meat problem and histamine.. which means my gut in quite a bad shape and still time to go until healing.

Even now i’m feeling grains/nuts are becoming bit hard to tolerate..

Has anyone else been in this same situation?  How do you do a Paleo and low histamine diet? Im barely able to function sometimes on this diet and just cannot believe the complexity again how this is becoming especially considering that the bacteria has been cleared from the last test report.

Leaky Gut Update #10 – Histamine Intolerance

It has been a while since I updated my last blog post, however I’ve had a bit of a set back since then. I have developed some kind of histamine intolerance to meat and anything histamine.. so I have had to resort to other protein source foods such as buckwheat flour, flaxseed flour, brown rice protein powder etc. However I do miss my meat and can’t eat it as much.. other wise i get headaches and heart palpitations if it is too old or stayed a day in the fridge. From all the research I have done online it appears i am low in the DAO Enzyme which breaks down histamine foods in the gut. I did try fresh meat and I don’t have a problem, however the same meat the next day becomes  a problem..

I have purchased a product from the US called Histame which is supposed to break down histamine, you take it before a food, I have found it did partially work but not good enough, but i figured it must be the low dosage in the single tablet which only has about 4,000 HDU units, i did try two tablets however still was not much improvement. I will try next a new product Histamine Block which has 20,000 HDU units per tablet and see how this goes with meat. According to them you can take up to 4 tablets before a meal if you are dealing with severe histamine intolerance.  I did come across this PDF which details problematic histamine foods > SIGHI-FoodCompatibilityList_HIT(EN)

Hopefully as I continue to heal the gut this histamine problem will disappear. If anyone has histamine problems please comment and what you have done to make the condition better during leaky gut.
